The philosophy of Ivy preschool is to provide a loving and nurturing atmosphere where children will thrive. Using comprehensive standards for Virginia, which are organized into theme based units, encourages students to develop their skills and confidence. Each unit incorporates language, math, science, creative arts, music, motor skills, and social development. These thematic units encourage curiosity and self direction which will prepare the children academically and socially for kindergarten. As many studies have proven again and again, children develop best in small classes, where they will receive a lot of one on one time and not get lost in a large class.

I was a New York City public school teacher for 10 years before moving to Charlottesville. I have a master's degree in elementary education and hold teaching certificates in New York and Virginia. I've taught just about every type of student including gifted, remedial and bilingual students. Since then I've raised 3 wonderful children and did a lot of volunteer work at their schools. I've always wanted to get back into the classroom because my true love is working with children. Working with preschoolers is probably the most rewarding and fulfilling job I could imagine and starting a preschool has long been a dream of mine. My vision for this preschool program is multi fold. While following comprehensive standards for Virginia, the lessons will be presented in a fun and creative way. Additionally, because studies have shown that second languages are best learned at an early age, I have integrated a multicultural program into our curriculum which will provide our students exposure to the classical language of Greek. They will be introduced to this language and culture through songs, counting, and basic phrases.
